UPSC CSE 2027 notification will be released on 13 January 2027. The application window closes on 2 February 2027.

Every year, 10-12 lakh candidates apply. Only 1000-1200 get selected. Competition is tough. But with right strategy, success is possible.

Eligibility Criteria

Nationality

Indian citizen for IAS and IPS. Other services have some relaxations.

Educational Qualification

Any recognized university degree. Final year students can also apply. No minimum percentage required. Read detailed eligibility guide.

Age Limit

21 to 32 years as on 01 August 2027. Born between 02 August 1995 and 01 August 2006.

Age Relaxation

OBC – 3 years, SC/ST – 5 years, Defence – 3 years, PwBD – 10 years.

Number of Attempts

General – 6, OBC – 9, SC/ST – unlimited (till age limit).

Application Fee

  • General / OBC / EWS: ₹100
  • SC / ST / PwBD / Female: Free
  • Payment Mode: Online – Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card, UPI

Female candidates and reserved category candidates must select “fee exemption” option correctly while filling the form.

How to Apply – Step by Step

  1. Visit upsc.gov.in or upsconline.nic.in
  2. Click on “Examination” then “Active Examinations”
  3. Click on “Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2027”
  4. Part I registration: Name, parents name, DOB, mobile, email
  5. Part II registration: Address, qualification, exam center preference
  6. Upload photo and signature (20 KB to 300 KB, JPEG format)
  7. Pay fee (if applicable)
  8. Submit and take printout

Exam Pattern – Mains

  • Qualifying Papers: Paper A (Indian Language) – 300 marks, Paper B (English) – 300 marks
  • Merit Papers: Essay – 250 marks, GS I, II, III, IV – 250 marks each, Optional I and II – 250 marks each
  • Total Merit Marks: 1750 marks
  • Interview (Personality Test): 275 marks
  • Grand Total: 2025 marks

12 Month Preparation Plan

  • Months 1-3 (June-Aug 2026): Complete NCERTs (Class 6-12). Foundation is key. NCERT book list for UPSC.
  • Months 4-6 (Sep-Nov 2026): Standard books – Laxmikanth, Spectrum, GC Leong, Ramesh Singh
  • Months 7-8 (Dec 2026-Jan 2027): Daily newspaper + current affairs notes
  • Months 9-10 (Feb-Mar 2027): Mock tests (2-3 per week) + analysis
  • Month 11 (Apr 2027): Revision + CSAT practice + previous year questions
  • Month 12 (May 2027): Light revision only. No new topics.
